Officers and Board Members

President: Mary Blackwell

A retired Air Force officer and Desert Storm veteran, Mary has been Niceville resident since 1996 and an LWVOC member since 1998. Local League President since 2008, Mary also served as Adult Committee Chair for Boy Scouts of America Venturing Crew 520 from 2001–06, and as Secretary for the Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women from 2010–14. She and her husband Rocky, run a small local business together. Their older daughter, Dr. Laurie Cuttino, lives in Richmond VA with her husband, Chris Denton, and their children Sam, Elka and Sydni. Their younger daughter, Beth Pepper, lives in Niceville with her husband Steven and their children Gwen and Theo. Favorite (and only) son Aaron is a graduate student at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

1st Vice President: Wanjiku Jackson

Wanjiku is currently the Director of Business and Computer Science at Northwest Florida State College, Niceville Campus, where she was previously Coordinator of Career and Technical Education. She is a graduate of Troy University and an inveterate community booster and volunteer. Wanjiku was a member of the Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women for six years, and is a Past Chair of that organization.

2nd Vice President: Darlo Kiely

Darlo moved from Illinois to Florida in 1988 and never looked back. A licensed insurance agent and underwriter since 1984, she owns her own business in Niceville. Darlo has been interested in politics since college, where she earned a specialized degree in Economics, Public Policy Tract, with a minor in Business Administration. In college she served in the student senate and edited her college newspaper. She also served in several leadership positions with Democratic Party organizations before joining League. Two of her four children still live in Illinois, two call Florida home, and her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (whom she misses “terribly”) are scattered across the country.

Darlo Kiely

Treasurer: Beth Reindl Madrigal

Beth is the President/Owner of Administrative Asset Advantage, a local management consulting firm. She spent 20 years as a business manager and comptroller for Floridian Construction before striking out on her own. Beth also served as Director of Religious Exploration for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Emerald Coast from 2013–2014, and is interested in a variety of issues from animal welfare to science and technology. Beth lives in Niceville with her youngest child. Her oldest daughter attends Florida State University.

Elected Board Member: Barbara Smith

Barbara is a local retiree who doesn’t know the meaning of the word “retired.” A long-time member of the Center for Lifelong Learning, she is a Past President and has also served as Board Member and Special Events Coordinator. She was appointed to the Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women by District 2 Commissioner John Jannazo in 2009 and served through 2015.
